The Thankful Month

It’s November! A month solely dedicated to being thankful and to be grateful for what we have.

A month where you cannot step into a store and not see signs that say ‘Give Thanks’ ‘Be Thankful’ ‘Thankful and Blessed’ and other signs of the season. Now everything is Christmas, but that is beside the point…

Why do we limit our ultimate thankful mood to one month? Or two if we go into Christmas.

To me, being thankful is something that is a part of my everyday life.

One of my mottos that I often quote is ‘Never take anything for granted, always be thankful’ I can think back to times that I took so many things for granted, and I was not truly thankful for them until I lost them. Some, I was able to get back, but others were gone forever. Which is why I like to be thankful for something every day.

And I am not talking about sitting down every day and making the top 100 list of things you’re thankful for. I am talking about being thankful every day for the little things. Little inconsequential things that we take for granted, such as the sun is shining, you have a roof over your head, food on the table, you get to stay home instead of going out in the cold, you get to watch your favorite movie, you’re alive and breathing, and I could go on…but, anything that brings joy unexpectedly should also bring a feeling and attitude of thankfulness.

Being grateful is sometimes super difficult, it is so easy to complain than to look for something to be thankful for, and we get caught up in what we don’t have and want, that we forget what we do have.

We need to take a step back sometimes and really see what we have, and we will realize that there is a lot to be thankful for. Even if you have to start with the little things first, and the more you think of those, your list will begin to grow, and we will feel more than thankful, we will feel joyful and contentment.
