Monday Devotions

Amazing Undeserving Love

Good morning one and all!

There are changes in Gabbi Journal land! For a couple of months I have been doing Book Review Thursday’s. Well, I’m going to take a break on that for a while, and now there is a new schedule!

Monday’s I am going to be posting a short devotional (written by me) on different Bible verses or something similar.

Wednesday’s will be my regular blog posts.

And Friday’s will be Journaling Day. Where I will be posting a gratitude or simple journaling prompt.

Gratitude journaling has challenged me to be more thankful and to find positives throughout the day, and I hope it will challenge you as well.

So, without further ado, let’s get into (wow, that rhymes) our first Monday devotional.

John 3:16, probably the most well-known verse in the Bible, it is the first verse some children learn and it is quoted so often that we give little thought to it’s meaning. But when we look a little deeper and look at how the words are put together you see; promises, sacrifice, and amazing underserving love.

For God so Loved the World

The world, Genesis 1:1 says “In the beginning God Created the Heavens and the Earth” and in chapter one and two of Genesis it tells how God created everything. The world was a perfect place, with animals, plants, birds, and sea creatures with no wrong in it.

Then God created Man, Adam. Then God told Adam that he could eat of every tree expect of the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:16-17) because if he did, he would die. They were such simple instructions, Adam and soon Eve, had the whole garden, they could just not have one tree.

After God created Adam, He created women, Eve. (Genesis 2:21-23) the world was still a perfect place; there was no wrong in the world, but wrong would soon enter.

According to Genesis 3, there was a Serpent in the garden, and it says in Genesis 3:1 that he was ‘more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord made.’ And the Serpent tempted Eve to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and she ate the fruit then she gave the fruit to Adam and their eyes were opened. (Genesis 3:6-7)

Sin had now entered the world; it was no longer a perfect place with no wrongs.

Everything was no longer perfect, an animal was killed to make clothing for Adam and Eve, and they were sent out of the Garden of Eden.

The world has been never the same; killings happened, wars broke out, kings rose and fell, everyone had to work to survive. Nothing was perfect…But God loved us so much…

That He gave His only begotten Son

In the Old Testament, you will read about priests making sacrifices in the temples, killing animals for burnt offerings, this was a symbolic way for the people to get forgiveness.

Sacrifices had to be made. (Leviticus 17:5)

But there was one sacrifice that would cover the entire world, and we would no longer have to make sacrifices.

It says in Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall His name Immanuel”

God sent His only Son to be beaten, mocked, have a crown of thorns placed upon His head, and nailed to a cross, for our sins. So undeserving, poor people like us may be Saved.

Jesus died for me and He died for you.

That whoever believes in Him

Acts 16:31 says “So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household”

Paul and Silas were saying these words to the Philippian Jailer. Paul and Silas were in prison for healing a young girl (Acts 16:16-24). God caused an earthquake and the jail doors were opened.

The jailer saw that the doors were opened and thought that the prisoners had escaped and was going to kill himself, but Paul stopped the jailer and assured him that all were still there.

The jailer then wanted to know what he must do to be saved.

Paul and Silas said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ…” This verse is telling us that anyone can believe and be saved no matter who you are, Jesus died for all.

Should not perish

In John 10:28 Jesus says “And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand”

When we ask Jesus into our hearts and believe in Him. Romans 10:13

We shall not perish spiritually, we will die physically but our spiritual bodies will not perish…

But have everlasting life

And in John 6:40 Jesus says “And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day”

When we believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins, we are forgiven and will have everlasting life in Heaven with Jesus.

Never take for granted the “common” Bible verses. The verses we think are minor, have the greatest lesson to teach us.

Say this verse with meaning and understanding next time…

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life

John 3:16
