Journal Prompt – Write about a happy memory

Now, think of the happiest things
It’s the same as having wings

Think of a wonderful thought
Any merry little thought

When there’s a smile in your heart
There’s no better time to start
Think of all the joy you’ll find
When you leave the world behind
And bid your cares goodbye
You can fly!

These lyrics are from the classic song ‘You can Fly’ from Peter Pan. Ask any of my friends and they will tell you, I love Disney movies and songs. For me, Disney movies bring back memories of simpler days, I can remember sitting in my childhood home and watching Peter Pan, Cinderella, and The Parent Trap usually eating popcorn or something.

While the simple days are long gone, the memories are not. They still fill my mind, and I often visit that part of my mind when I need a smile or to remind myself that while right now, nothing is going right, there is always tomorrow for good times, those times are still ahead no matter what happens today.

We should always take some time to remember the good times, the happy times, the times that made you forget about the troubles of the world for a while.

Today’s journal prompt is

To write every single good memory would be impossible, but we can pick out the ones that still make us smile and feel happy.

I remember when I was about 12 years old, my oldest brother surprised me and my Mom by taking us to the Nutcracker at the Milwaukee ballet. I remember sitting in the balcony seats between mom and my brother, watching the orchestra and the magic happening on the sparkling stage. It was so much fun and unforgettable.

About three years ago, my parents and I flew to Maine to see my mom’s side of the family, and we told no one we were coming. I remember sitting at the airport at 2:00 in the morning, writing everything that was happening in my journal. I had not flown since I was 10, so I was super excited. Then we took off and the ground disappeared, that’s when I realized how much I loved the ground and how much I didn’t like heights.

That was memorable!

While these are “big” events, there are little ones that still bring a smile. Like the time my mom and I got into a water fight on the way home with our water bottles. We were soaking wet by the time we got home.

I remember a particular Super Bowl, and how we had no voice by the next morning because we yelled and cheered all night.

Looking back on these events bring both joys in remembering, and it reminds us how good times are still ahead.

Take a look back, what’re your happy memories?
